Food inflation price index
Cost of food in the United States increased 1.80 percent in February of 2020 over the same month in the previous year. Food Inflation in the United States averaged 3.39 percent from 1914 until 2020, reaching an all time high of 36.70 percent in May of 1917 and a record low of -34.30 percent in June of 1921. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for food is a component of the all-items CPI. The CPI measures the average change over time in the prices paid by urban consumers for a representative market basket of consumer goods and services.
